Microsoft Ignite Power Platform Takeaways – AI Across the Board

Microsoft Ignite Power Platform Takeaways – AI Across the Board

A presentation for new features within the Power Platform just concluded at Microsoft ignite. While there were many different announcements (including the release of Power Pages to general availability) some of the most exciting features focus on the advancements in using AI to make low code development even easier.

Updates to document processing with AI Builder

Given the desire of many organisations to perform digital transformation on existing hard copies of documents, the document processing feature within AI builder is one of the most heavily used elements. This announcement included updates to the built-in feedback loop, unstructured documents move to general availability, additional language support, and multipage table extraction from a single document. These updates should make the feature much more accurate and versatile which will be a massive benefit to efficiency for anyone currently using this feature.

Power Automate description to cloud flow

One of the most interesting changes to recently occur within the Power Platform is using AI to create Power Automate flows. Users can describe what they would like to do within a Power Automate flow. This description will then build your flow in seconds without the need for knowing the exact names of any connections or triggers that you might be using.

One of the more tedious parts of workflow creation can be writing expressions to get the data you need within your workflow. this feature allows users to create an example of how they would like the data to be displayed, the engine will then use AI to generate the expression that will generate that data.

Converting drawings to forms in PowerApps

While this feature has been available in PowerApps for quite some time, a video on the Microsoft Mechanics YouTube Channel gives an excellent demonstration of how this feature, in collaboration with the new Power Automate features can make simple application development incredibly easy. Rather than needing to manually create single-page forms within the designer, you can get a head start by taking a hand-drawn image, scanning it in, and allowing AI to determine what elements in the image relate to what part of the form. This allows for a much more rapid start to app development, as well as allowing end users with limited knowledge or experience in form development to get their ideas realized.
